Quick update

Still working on the birth story, but it's getting late and I need to sleep! We're doing well over here. I feel so good that I have to force myself to lie down and rest more. Dio is lovely, nursing really well, a very calm, gentle person. My breasts have gone up several sizes since yesterday and the colostrum is turning milky-white. My mom arrived yesterday and has been a lifesaver, amusing Zari and cooking meals and cleaning the house and letting us rest with the baby. Will write more tomorrow, but here are some stats on me and baby:
  • Dio weighed 7 lbs 1 oz and was 20 3/4" long.
  • His head was 34 1/2 cms around and he had Apgars of 9 & 10.
  • Active, kick-butt labor was about 3 1/2 hours long, and I only pushed for 15-20 minutes total this time!
  • My blood loss was minimal at less than 150 mls.
That's about all that I can think of at the moment. Loving this baby more every day!

  1. I'm glad it went so well. I look forward to reading your birth story. I'm also very excited to read how you compare this experience with a midwife to your UC. I hope you had the experience you envisioned. :)

  3. I am so glad for all of you-- after all the worry and just the whole journey, a new beginning aqs a family four. Enjoy this time, the high energy feeling means you are resting appropriately...dont ruin it! Remember we talked about this in the past? Rest rest rest even if you dont want to. At some point Eric and mom will be gone and you do not want to be the bedraggled mama of 2.

Ok, done wagging my mom finger at you! I am so happy to hear everything went so quickly! Sheesh! You guys are awesome.

  4. So wonderful! I'm really thrilled to hear that things went so well. Dio sounds like an angel baby. Enjoy him!

Also enjoy feeling so good. I concur with Joy. Take it easy so you can keep feeling this good. I'm glad you have help, and also that nursing is going so well. What does Zari think of him?

I'm curious. Did you have any inklings that he was a boy before the birth?

  5. Did you figure out who won the sling in your "guess the baby stats" pool? I didn't enter, just curious if anyone nailed it...

  6. Beautiful! Loved seeing all the pix in your previous post as well. Looks like your midwife was just the kind of hands-off caregiver you wanted.

  8. Sounds awesome.
Do you have any idea of why some women continue to bleed for weeks, but yet you've stopped already?
The first days are pretty good usually, while the endorphins are still high and reality hasn't kicked in, LOL. It's so easy to go overboard in the early days when you're feeling so ...accomplished :) Take it easy, and don't even think of blogging for a little while! Family first! :)

  9. TracyKM--the 150 ml blood loss refers to birth-related blood loss, not the normal postpartum bleeding. Last time mine lasted 8-10 days. Some women have 6-8 weeks of postpartum bleeding, and I don't know why it's shorter for some and longer for others.

  10. The 4 births where I didnt get to rest properly postpartum I bled for TEN weeks. One vaginal, three c sections. BLed and bled and bled.

My homebirth (baby #3 out of 5)I remained in bed for 4 days, came out to the living room on day 5, and on day 8 my husband returned to work and I felt completely capable of caring for the children at that point, with only light bleeding for maybe another week.

So I swear its the resting.
