It's great to read an OBs thoughts on this. I'm a little frustrated though that Dr. Posner implies that the 'ideal' circumstances include a previous birth, because the SOGC guidelines certainly do not say that. Primips can deliver breech babies vaginally too!Karennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20642800.post-90375518422687269932010-04-17T21:10:02.927-04:002010-04-17T21:10:02.927-04:00Also I forgot to mention that I pushed my daughter...Also I forgot to mention that I pushed my daughter out on all fours - half in the tub and half on my bathroom floor - and Jennifer, from the article above, also instinctually did the same.Jjjjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02722208786261472931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20642800.post-67055896589750372852010-04-17T21:08:56.845-04:002010-04-17T21:08:56.845-04:00I am a Canadian who loves your blog. The mother in this story is my next door neighbor and I had the pleasure of holding her baby the day before the story aired. She is so proud of herself for her vaginal breech birth and I am thrilled to be her friend. She told me that Lily, her baby, literally "fell" right out of her. She is so lucky to have the support of Midwives and staff at the hospital. I love being Canadian.

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/health/Giving+birth+natural/2788647/story.htmlJjjjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02722208786261472931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20642800.post-64057023930633335232010-04-16T00:19:06.109-04:002010-04-16T00:19:06.109-04:00I appreciate you transcribing this!

If more people in the mainstream OB community took this attitude, we would start to see real change.

Thanks for transcribing this, Rixa!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03902650565632814900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20642800.post-33931810738566240612010-04-15T08:08:17.896-04:002010-04-15T08:08:17.896-04:00Thanks so much for the transcription!
Sara - WE k...Thanks so much for the transcription!

Sara - WE know it's more dangerous, and midwives know it's more dangerous, but try telling that to an OB who has been practicing in lithotomy his whole life. He either needs to see Frank Loewen's videos, or see some data, before he's going to deviate from what experience has taught him is the right thing to do. In conversation with Frank though, he himself is reluctant to deliver breeches in lithotomy though! LOL I actually think it'll be pretty tough to convince anybody who has seen the ease that breech babes are born when mama is on all fours, to put a mama in lithotomy.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16727222491341903622noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20642800.post-57002554731767002992010-04-15T07:34:44.899-04:002010-04-15T07:34:44.899-04:00@ Susan - I know it was so funny! Isn't that what they've been doing at the Farm for decades for breech births? But you're right, it is heartening nonetheless. The more OBs in more countries that do these kinds of procedures, the less ground American OBs will have for refusal.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20642800.post-84251079497109413762010-04-14T23:51:15.716-04:002010-04-14T23:51:15.716-04:00Wait--so babies can be born while the mother is &q...Wait--so babies can be born while the mother is "on all fours"?! That seems almost unethical to put women on their backs when they know it's dangerous.

Interesting though! It's nice to see them so excited and eager. Hearing them admit that obstetricians don't like to wait - they always want to step in and do something is funny. And sad. And especially sad to hear them talk about how most of their colleagues don't want to work with midwives. Ridiculous. And with all the training they've had they're barely learning the basics of "don't pull on the baby"???sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02162027621928554963noreply@blogger.com
