"Straight out of a horror movie"??

Judit's post about two births in the headlines illustrates the value of a little knowledge and preparation when it comes to giving birth, no matter where you are planning to have the baby. It also shows how perception and expectation can color an experience entirely differently. Thanks Judit!

  2. I've heard one UCer say that she thinks that all pregnant women should study for and prepare for a UC just for the fact that you might end up having one anyway.

  3. I love that idea of all pregnant moms having to study and prepare for UC, because then they will realize that in most cases birth is just a normal event. Nothing to be afraid of! :)

Indeed it is all perception. I imagine that mom who had her baby on the toilet was scared, maybe the mom in the car was too, but then how do you retell the story and create it for yourself?

The car couple created a great adventure story, which I think is healthier than making it a "horror story" as the grandma of the second couple called it.

  4. When I read the "horror movie" article I thought, Humph, if only all hospital staff would give laboring women so much room!

I do like the idea that each woman should prepare a UC just in case. Traffic can be a bear sometimes!

  5. Hmm, according to these folks' standards, Ben's birth would have been a nightmare. I mean, come on, he crowned in the car, his head was born in the elevator, and we hadn't even made it to the door of our room before the rest of him popped out.

Actually, I do get a lot of horrified looks when I tell that story, but I think it is the perfect birth story for that particular child. Now, if I could just figure out how to duplicate it for this baby without the hair-raising, 80-mph ride to the hospital part. :)

  6. Well staying at home should be a good start, Kel!!! But, do you guys have an elevator in your apt building? How're you gonna push that little missy out without an elevator? (totally j.k.!!!)

  7. Hmm, well, we may have to forego that part, too. :)
