Birth pool update

What's better than buying or renting a birth pool? Getting one for free!

My sister-in-law had her fifth baby almost two weeks ago. Her local hospital provides La Bassine pools for laboring in (and accidental water births, which is what happened to my SIL--she got in the pool and her baby was born 4 minutes later!). When they were getting ready to leave, the midwife said something about "taking your birth pool home." It turns out they give you the birth tub and all of the accessories after your birth! So she is lending it all to me: the pool and the Deluxe accessory kit (hose, electric air pump, faucet adapter, "Y" adapter, thermometer, plastic floor cover, debris net, mirror, & instructions). How awesome is that?

  2. i've used two different ones. one from waterbirth international.. and our second one was a $35.00 "fishy" pool... it was huge, and awesome and now the kids can play in it lol!

if the water dropped below 96 deg, they just added more hot water. i loved it.

  3. Yay, good for you! It's truly grand of that hospital how they give their women their birth pools! Just in case, so next time they should be all set for a home birth even... hee hee.

  8. Do you mind telling me what rural hospital in Ohio since I have a friend expecting up there who will have to have a hospital birth because of complications in the baby.

  9. It was the Wadsworth hospital (www.wrhhs.org). My SIL used the midwives there; there's a practice of two CNMs who alternate call. If I remember correctly, she said that one of the CNMs used to be a home birth midwife.

  10. too cool! I'm impressed that a birth tub is part of the birth package for one, and excited for you that you get to benefit from it too! Your SIL could totally rent it to people.

  11. I just love little serendipitous moments like that... is serendipitous a word? Anyway, so glad your birth pool plans have worked out so well. :)

  12. Very nice! My midwife loans out tubs for home births. I certainly enjoyed laboring and delivering in the tub. And afterward my 3- and 6-year-olds didn't want to give the tub back -- they enjoyed their pretend "house" and spent a lot of time playing in the tub!
