Now for something completely unrelated to birth, breastfeeding, or parenting...
Here are slideshows of the three apartments in the house we purchased in January. We've already found renters for two of the apartments, starting April 1st!
Apartment 1
Apartment 2
Apartment 3
Apartment 1 is totally repainted. The other two are still a bit ho-hum, but I plan to repaint them in the near future. I'm just not a fan of off-white.
Eric has now repaired somewhere between 30 and 40 burst pipes throughout the house. He thinks he finally found and repaired the last ones today. The last 10 or so repairs were behind walls and inside ceilings.
Besides more painting, the work is drawing to a close. Just a few toilets, sinks, and blinds to install and a deep clean of the studio apartment. The yard also needs raking and reseeding, and the bushes need trimming. And--just as important, in my perspective--some colorful flowers out front.
Whoa! Where do you live? Apartments like that in LA are in the $1000-$2000+ range! Wish I lived in your town ;D
ReplyDeleteI was about to ask the same question, in SLC a decent 1 bdrm is a minimum of 700, the nicer ones can be as much a 900+.
ReplyDeleteWow, they all look really nice. Good job! I'd love to live there and your rent is so reasonable!
ReplyDeleteWow, beautiful appts #1 and #2 holy cow is rent cheap where you are.
ReplyDeleteYeah--that's the benefit of living in a smallish town in an inexpensive part of the country. Let's just say I don't live on the East or West coast. Or in the South--otherwise I wouldn't be having such problems with water pipes freezing and bursting!
ReplyDeleteWOW. I'll take apartment 1! Gorgeous floors and banisters and mouldings! I love turn-of-the-century homes.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job, Rixa. Can't help but secretly wish we could puchase one of the old Victorian homes and develop a birth center out of it. I think I'd prefer an office setting with various ancillary services (massage, chiropractics, retail, diaper service, educational space...) and continue my homebirth practice.
ReplyDeleteLove all those windows! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteBut shucks, you should see what I pay $750 a month for. And I just live in the Canadian Prairies--nothing too posh or popular about that!
The idea of a birth center in a house like this makes me think of the house across from the Co-op in Iowa City . . . chiropractor with various other services (I was there to see the midwife, once upon a time long ago). A lovely environment, so much better than an office building.
The Bradley Center was great, wasn't it? I had some chiropractic appointments there when I was a student. The birth center in Des Moines, Almost Home Birth Center, was also in a large Victorian and was quite beautiful. I wonder if it's still open?
ReplyDeleteNice apartments. =0) I saw you are offering to deduct $50 for the tenant doing yardwork. Not sure what state you live in, but wanted to give you a heads up. I'm a landlord as well and in Massachusetts where I own my properties an agreement such as yours could constitute an employee/employer relationship. If my tenant/ now employee is injured while they are performing any of that work I could be held responsible. In the long run, I have found it to be better to hire an independent contractor to perform those duties and consider it a maintenance expense. Anyways that is my experience, I'd check out your state laws and maybe talk to an attorney experienced in landlord/tenant law, or if you haven't already maybe consdier joining a landlord /property owners association.
ReplyDeleteI love apt 1. We pay $700 currently for a 2 br, but I would love to live in an older home. SIGH. You know IC rental prices, though. Skyhigh for the midwest. I'm jealous of your tenants!
