Only 8 blocks away, but we're super excited about our new house. It just came up on the market this week: a forecloure, really rough on the outside but beautiful on the inside. It was built in 1900 by a local brick manufacturer and is in a historic district about a half mile from campus. It has more than enough space for as large a family as we could ever hope to have. There's also a carriage house out back with a "gardener's quarters" (needs to be totally gutted) that we can turn into a writing studio for Eric. Just what we need--another huge renovation project!
On a whim, we looked at it on Thursday afternoon and fell in love. We put an offer in on Friday and a few hours later, we were buying another house!
We've already found a university family on a 3-year contract who are very interested in renting our current house. That gives us the flexibility of not having to sell it right away.

ReplyDeleteIt's currently being rented out, which is why you see furniture. The back story from our realtor is that the current renters wanted to buy the house (and you can tell they put a lot of work into painting the rooms, decorating, etc) but they couldn't qualify for the loan.

ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous! House prices must be awesome where you live. Here, there'd be no way we could buy a second house even if we were to rent out the first--no way to come up with a reasonable down payment on one income :( I really wanted an old house, but something like that here would be $500 000 easily. Probably more, we don't tease ourselves by looking, LOL. So we're stuck in an 80s subdivision house for now. We moved when our #3 was 6 months old; that was tons of fun, LOL. Can't wait to hear more about the house!

ReplyDeletemy husband and I are always renovating something. it's a dream of mine to buy an old home and restore it to it's glory (complete with green retrofits of course). that home is lovely! how exciting!!

However, I'm struck by the tile on the livingroom fireplace. we need to retile our hearth and I had this idea to use something like that...but had never actually seen it before...and there it is fantastic! I'd sure love a close up of that fire place tile. Is it glass? What is it? I wanted something that looked/reminded me of water.
