She is here!

I gave birth to a girl this morning at 11:23!! We weren't expecting her so early (she is 38 weeks on the nose) but we are thrilled. She weighs just shy of 7 lbs.

Labor lasted 10 hours. It was intense, challenging, and very fulfilling. She was born into my own hands in our master bathroom. Eric was a great help. Basically I labored on my own in another room and hollered if I needed anything. He respected my need for doing this without feeling watched. It was just what I wanted.

She's been nursing like a pro and cuddling up skin to skin the rest of the time. She has never left her parent's arms from the minute she was born.

Here she is less than 1 minute old:

  8. Congradulations!!! My 3rd baby was born into my own hands too :D It was just me and his 2 older sisters at home. I loved it and his was my best birth. Hard labor was like about 2 hrs and he was born at 39 wks on the nose.

  13. Okay, one more thing, this time about me me me...
Me too, I *so* want to do this! You are such great inspiration Rixa! I want to stay perfectly tuned all the way and birth my baby into my own hands.
When the time comes, you'll tell me again and again that I can do it too -- deal?
Thank you so much for sharing. It means a world.

  14. Judit, it's a deal! You gave me a lot of confidence when I was getting ready for the birth. I am afraid I will be a die-hard advocate of birthing this way from now on! Eric is totally sold now, too. I actually would like him to post his thoughts about the birth here. I'll get working on that...

  15. Hee hee, I see the "serious face" you were talking about. That's hilarious!

Is that first pic the one that your mom said was innappropriate?? WHATEVER! I think it's absolutely beautiful. It captures the moment perfectly. It practically yells, "Hey, look what we did! HURRAY!"

You did an excellent job. Your birth story was so serene and pleasant to read.
