Stinky skunks and delicious chickens

Ivy went to the garage this morning to get her bike out. She came right back into the house. "There's a skunk in the garage!" She wisely backed up as soon as she saw it and then ran as fast as she could back into the house.

The other kids ran to the back windows, and they saw the skunk leaving the garage and rambling through the back yard. By that time, however, it was too late to bike to school so we went in the car.

Fun fact: my dad had a pet skunk growing up (de-scented or whatever the term is).

Ivy worked all afternoon and all evening on a book project. She is giving a presentation about "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe." Yesterday she wrote a summary of the book, and today she created an elaborate 3-part scene for a puppet show. Pictures tomorrow I hope. She is very creative; I helped with a few things but she came up with almost all the ideas herself.

Eric is grading poems today and had a good laugh at a student who used the word "betweenst." Note: please do not make up words that sound like fancy Shakespearean.

I made dinner yesterday (roast chicken, roast potatoes in bacon fat, and roast cauliflower). Eric had to bring Dio and Inga to soccer practice this evening, so I was dinner duty again. I made bone broth with the bones, fat, and gristle, then used that for the base of chicken soup with leeks, carrots, onions, and celery. Dessert was peanut butter & dark chocolate cookies.
