Inga is nestled in the corner of my chair, drifting off to sleep. We're leaving tomorrow morning for my older sister's wedding in Washington D.C. Zari is super excited to wear her new "wedding dress," as she calls it. She and Inga and all of her girl cousins have matching dresses--cute ones that you can actually wear in places besides a wedding.
Inga is such a fun, smiley, zen baby. She does fuss occasionally, but as long as she's tended to (either nursed, diaper changed, played with, or put down for a nap) she's really content. Her latest fascination is staring at the ceiling fan as it turns around. She also loves being talked to. If you take your eyes off her, she gets upset and starts squawking. But as soon as you face her again and start talking (or cooing, or making random noises) she smiles and babbles right back. She stores most of her fat on her chin and cheeks. So cute! Her new hair is growing in, and I'm curious to see what color it will be. Her original hair is a reddish auburn. Like my other children, she has a widow's peak, but hers is off-center. I love these little quirks of genetics.
I hope my poison ivy rash calms down. It's all over my arms, ankles, backs of my knees, on my neck, behind my ear, and even on both breasts. Believe me, I definitely did not garden in the nude--I had long pants on, in fact--so don't ask me how poison ivy got there. Itchy itchy itchy...
Oh, and what would a wedding be without wedding slings? All of the bridesmaids with babies (which is 4 of us) have matching silk dupioni slings. I made three and my youngest sister made the fourth. Pictures coming when I get back home!
Off to get both of us to bed. I'm so excited for this weekend!

ReplyDeleteMy baby always loved ceiling fans!!!! He would watch them intently. Now he is 11 months old and points at the fan, circles around like how the blades go, and his first word (besides dada/mama) is "up!" (look up there!). Figures!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you know you can get poison ivy if someone has a fire nearby and burns it? And it spreads like the dickens!! I hope it disapears for the wedding.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard of Jewel Weed? It's an herbal poison ivy remedy that comes as a spray and works wonders! You can spread poison ivy if you still have fresh oils on your hands. So if you gardened, then nursed or touched your breasts for whatever reason, you probably transferred the oils there. I've had full body poison ivy rash, and I know it's miserable! Hope you're better soon!
ReplyDeletePoison Ivy spreads like the dickens sometimes. I've had it bad enough twice to be prescribed steroids because it was around my eye (and everywhere else). I never took the steroids because they scared my mom but the doc wanted me to have them "just in case."
ReplyDeleteThere's a special wash called Tecnu that you can get. It's pretty much the only thing that will actually break up the poison ivy oils. If you wash as soon as you get inside it can keep you from getting the blisters but even if you don't use it until you see blisters it will help reduce the length and severity of the outbreak. You can even use it to wash the oils out of your clothes.
I had PI a few months after having my son. I was so afraid I'd transfer it to him somehow! It was everywhere you said yours is and more. I had to take Benadryl and use Ivy Dry. It was the only thing that worked. I probably should have gone to the drs...since then I've been a maniac in staying away from that nasty stuff.

I'm so sorry about your poison ivy! I had a horrible case of it last spring when my baby was 5 months old.
ReplyDeleteHere are a few suggestions:
- wash your shoes - if they still have oil on them, you can re-contaminate your hands every time you put them on or take them off.
- wash sheets/pillowcases/towels daily (in your spare time - ha!)
- Technu is wonderful stuff, but I found it works best right after exposure
- replacing bath scrubbies, etc. that may contain the oils.
After a couple of months, I finally went to the doctor and was prescribed a round of steroids. Both my primary care doctor and my pediatrician said it was safe while breastfeeding. I didn't regret taking it at all.
I hope it passes quickly! Enjoy the wedding and travel safely!

Wedding slings??!! How completely fabulous!! I can't wait to see a picture of that...I had my 4 month old in a sling for my sister's wedding, and totally wish I had a wedding sling- b/c I had a gorgeous chocolate brown dress, that nobody saw due to my bright green spotted sling... :(

ReplyDeleteLove hearing that Inga has an off center widow's peak. My son (6th baby, 4th UC, born 3.3.11, so close in age) has the same thing. It is prominent and peaks over his left eye instead of his nose, LOL! So cute.
