I just found out I am pregnant with my fourth and I really want a home birth. I am a little overwhelmed at where to start this process. I figured here with you and your readers was a good place. So do you or anyone who reads this know of a midwife they would recommend in southern arizona, specifically the Tucson area?
I am excited to hear about a response. I have called just about everyone available to speak to me and I haven't gotten any REAL positive feedback. I am just so scared to do it alone with all of the bad and negative talk thrusted upon me in the last 5 years. Doctor's have offered NO support for VBAC after 2 or more csecs. Thank you for asking about this to your peeps.
ReplyDeleteHere's a birth blog from Arizona, with some midwife/midwifery links in the sidebar. The blogger is in the middle of moving to a new house, but I will email her and see if she has any info to share.

Unfortunately all the midwives I know are in Phoenix; however, you can check my blog for "find a midwife" sites and there might be some recommendations for Tucson midwives. Another avenue might be to contact Phoenix-area midwives and ask them for their advice and recommendations. Here are some great Phoenix midwives - Wendi Cleckner, Sue SiSilvestro, Stephanie Soderblom.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered hiring a traveling midwife who will come to you in Tucson? I know of several midwives who will travel to the mom. Email me if you want addresses: momma2boyz@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteRixa - This is your cousin Stephanie, also living in Tucson, also with three kids...I have a friend who had her kids at a birth center by TMC. I think it was the Tucson Birth Center (tucsonbirthcenter.org) and she had positive experiences. That might at least be a place to ask about other midwives.
ReplyDeleteThere's a yahoo group for homebirthers and homebirth supporters in Arizona. There are actual get-togethers twice monthly in Phoenix, but there are folks in the online group from all over the state. Feel free to join the group and post a message asking for names and info.

i'm rootin' for you cj. i'm so glad you have lots of people giving you some feedback. my offer still stands for you to come live with me and be pampered a bit and have your birth with doc tate here in atlanta. but i TOTALLY understand if you refuse. i pray you find what you're looking for.
ReplyDeleteI live in CA, but my midwife has a friend who was her stand-in close to my due date who is from AZ. I loved her! The birth center where she works is in Chandler, which is not exactly close, but you never know.
ReplyDeleteHer name is Debbie Hervey, and the website is www.globalmidwifery.org
Good luck!
I am doing searches around AZ again. I have already talked to about 10 midwives in and around Tucson (about a month ago). All are wanting low-risk... I am ok with doing vba3c in the hospital but no info for vba3c-friendly info available.
ReplyDeleteI have also been on the ICAN group for AZ and there has been little to no activity there. The Atlanta group is poppin' though. Lots of conversations happening there.
I have posted a blog with midwives names and numbers in Tucson also, a while ago. I read that some others might want to conact them also.
