Bad news: we still have a mouse problem. I thought we had taken care of them all before we left, but I was wrong.
Good news: Our property taxes are much lower this year. Last year we paid over $4,100. This year's bill, which I just opened today, is just $75.56. (Due to a lucky combination of our homestead exemption kicking in, lower property tax rates this year, and state & local property tax relief credits).
Have you considered getting a cat? Seriously, I used to live in Iowa and we would have mice jumping down from holes in the ceiling. We then got a big ole farm cat, and life was good.
ReplyDeleteBTW, my property taxes were $12,000 last year. Big city living. Just a little perspective. :)
(My neighbors pay $26,000 a year...ugh)
Wow, I am jealous! I live in rural/suburban NH (town has about 4,000 people in 12 square miles), have a little over 5 acres, a modest 11yo house (2400sqft) and pay $10,000. The thing with NH is there is no income tax, and no sales tax, so the only way the state, county and town get money is property tax. And honestly the majority of it goes to pay for schools. I would not mind spending a bit more of it on the roads though! DH cut a tire again! They are supposidly doing a re-eval of property tax value, but I am not holding my breath, even though the sale price of my house is now probably much lower than when I bought it...
ReplyDeleteWow, that is awesome about the property taxes! Ours aren't too bad, about 5K, but we're in Texas and we don't have state income tax:)
ReplyDeleteIrish Spring soap cut up and sprinkled around. Mint extract oil. Peppermint plants.
ReplyDeleteMy SIL was paying $55 000 in property taxes at her old mansion outside of Indianapolis. Crazy.
Oh, I'm sorry about the mice. We had a serious problem with them in our Utah house, and I've hated them every since. We finally pulled out the big guns and brought in an exterminator. I hated to do it, but the traps just weren't working anymore. Ugh!
