Breastfeeding news & humor

Marin County, CA, introduced a new breastfeeding ad campaign last week featuring lifesize cardboard cutouts of women nursing their babies. The women hold cards that say: "When breastfeeding is accepted, it won’t be noticed." Here are two photos of the nursing mothers (and the looks they've been getting from passers-by).

And now for some breastfeeding humor:

Nurse Lochia shares a breastfeeding ditty, sung to the tune of "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast.
See our breasts, see our breasts--
Everywhere, half-naked chests.
While we nurse,
The prudish curse
And wish we'd button up our vests.
Sorry, folks, look away
If we're too decollete,
but this is what boobs are made for,
Not those Wonderbras you've paid for.
We refuse to go feed
Hunched in bathroom stalls--indeed,
We're appalled that you would make such rude requests.
Would you agree to eat
Upon a toilet seat?
See our breasts, see our breasts, free our breasts!

  1. Argh, earworm!

Seriously, though, thanks for posting this, both the news and the song. I love the ad campaign, especially that it's not only showing tiny babies but also at least one who is more toddler-sized.

  4. Hehe, I love the song. I was lucky enough never to have anyone make rude comments or suggestions about my nursing, but I always refused to nurse in a bathroom stall. Na-sty. :-)
