Bathroom renovation: final pictures

We finished renovating our master bathroom, just in time to move. It looked like this before we started and like this in the middle of renovations. We started this project when I was 6 months pregnant.

I took pictures the day before our renters (a new tenure-track professor and her husband) moved in. I love the antique vanity & mirror we found. My dad helped me refinish the wood and cut holes into the marble for the sink and faucet. We also put bun feet on the vanity to bring it up to the right height.
I had an antique silver chandelier that I had found in our house in Iowa City and had moved it with me a few times, thinking "some day I will find a use for this." (I usually don't do this, but the light fixture was really cool and I couldn't justify getting rid of it.) I used two of the five arms to make these vanity lights. I think the little shelves below the lights were for candles, back before electricity.
I miss our tub and our fancy shower...but I am sure our renters will enjoy them!

  6. That must have been hard to leave. My favorite is the antique dresser made sink vanity. BTW, do you have the name or info for who made your cabinets in IC? We've taken a permanent job here and are in a house that I'm itching to redo (esp. the kitchen)-- though it'll be a while til we've saved enough.

  7. We used an Amish cabinetmaker about 15 miles out of town. I'm trying to remember his name, but I'll have to look that up when I'm back home. He was incredibly good and about 1/3 the price of custom cabinetry. He did top-quality construction, no MDF or particleboard anywhere. We worked at his shop for a partial credit toward the price of the cabinets. It was really cool to see how he retrofitted all his power tools to work without using electricity. Send me an email in a few weeks and I'll look up the info.

  8. I remember they were beautiful. I'll email toward the end of the month (unless #5 arrives by then-- if so I'll probably take a bit longer). Thanks!
